Royal Lakeside…Wed. Aug.21….S/ford
John Anderson’s golf game was, to borrow a phrase from a former Australian Prime Minister, “ dead, buried and cremated”. A regular caddie suggested he take a couple of months off to re-group.
It hasn’t been that long yet, but what was needed was a confidence booster, and what better place than Royal Lakeside Golf Course with it’s lush fairways, where the ball sits up begging to be hit, greens that are first class and run exactly as they should, and weather that provided some breeze to make conditions quite comfortable.
Winner, John Anderson, with Greg Smith(R) and Tony Manners (L).
It was just what the doctor ordered, a small step but an impressive one of 44 stableford points, his best ever points score. Confidence somewhat restored, a win and a long awaited next Green Jacket.
But enough about me, there were another twenty golfers out there and some very good scores were turned in, as we would expect at this course.
Bill Copeland has been showing good form recently and made a credible 38 points to take a clear second spot.
Then, on 37 points, a countback was needed, once again, to decide third and fourth places. John Pierrel, who is always near the leaders somewhere, got the decision by a whisker over Chris Barker. Excellent scores from both.
Then followed three players with 36 points, very handy on another day and another course, but, unfortunately, missing out here.
Near Pins: Paul Smith (3) + (15) Takeshi Hakozaki (6), Dave Hewson (12),
1st Place – John Anderson (31) – 44 pts
2nd Place – Bill Copeland (13) – 38 pts
3rd Place – John Pierrel (12) – 37 pts c/back
4th Place – Chris Barker (12) – 37 pts
Best Front Nine ( non winners) – Nils-Peter Kristensen – 19 pts c/back
Best Back Nine ( non winners) – George Mueller – 20 pts
It’s a bit rough when 11 points on a nine wins the “silly hat” for lowest nine hole score, and there were two contenders. After a countback it was Greg Smith going from Green Jacket two days ago to a Green Hat today.
Tony Manners watched as the scores came in so was already prepared to receive the “wig” as the lowest overall score.
Not a big group today, but everyone had an enjoyable day out, and why wouldn’t you at this very fine Royal Lakeside Golf Course.?
